Sac Osage Weathers Jupiter
Winter storm Jupiter arrived in Missouri, but did not target Sac Osage Electric Cooperative's area as forecasters predicted. The National Weather Center's forecast as of Thursday January 12th predicted that starting Friday Sac Osage's territory would be hit hard. Ice accumulation through Sunday was forecast to be 3/4 an inch or greater. Those numbers were pushed down slightly by Friday, but the outlook was still grim. Instead, though, the trouble pushed north, south and east of our system.
Sac Osage was not completely unscathed as much smaller amounts of ice, along with wind and rain took down limbs and harassed the system. In same cases the ice took down the conductor causing line outages. The largest of these occurred in the Arcola area and left more than 350 members without power for a time Sunday morning. In total, 703 members experienced short outages at one time or another during the weekend.
Overall, the electrical system held up well to a storm that did not deliver as much ice as predicted by the weather experts. The damage would have been much greater if not for the efforts of Sac Osage to trim and spray brush and trees out of the lines and minimize those contacts. Sac Osage is proud of the work its employees have done to prevent and restore outages.
