Right of Way

A well cut right-of-way.Right-of-Way maintenance is one way Sac Osage Electric cooperative controls the delivery of safe and reliable electric service. Clearing limbs and trees away from power lines reduces many potential hazards.

  • Power lines broken by falling branches could remain electrified. Touching a hanging wire or the ground around the wire could cause serious injury or even death.
  • Climbing in a tree near a power line causes a branch to touch the electrical wires. Electricity could flow through the branch into your body and cause severe injury or death.
  • Never attempt to prune a limb yourself that is near a power line. Only qualified line clearance professionals are allowed to work within 15 feet of high-voltage lines.
  • Taller-growing trees near power lines increase the time needed to correct an outage, forcing maintenance crews to hunt among the branches locate service problems. Severe trimming may be necessary to correct the problem, resulting in more costs and damage to trees.

Planting Trees

Plan carefully before planting yard trees. Sac Osage Electric Cooperative asks that you not plant any trees underneath utility lines. Also, consider trees with a 25-foot maximum mature height and 20-foot horizontal spread such as a Dogwood or Crabapple. Trees should be planted at least 25 feet away from the power line to not have limbs growing into the pruning zone.

Report Problems

You can help cut your losses. Report trees that are interfering with the power lines. Please contact our office with any questions you may have about the planting, placement, and trimming of trees.
